Equipping Churches to Make Earth More Like Heaven
A hands-on, experiential learning intensive to equip pastors, not-for-profit leaders, entrepreneurs, and faith-based community developers to transform their communities for the Kingdom of God.
Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth [here] as it is in heaven [there]
—Matthew 6:10
Is God Calling You To Do More?

Do the needs of your community call for more than a Sunday morning worship service and a mid-week Bible Study?
Has God given you a vision to reach beyond the four walls of your building, but you don’t know where to start or how to fund it?
Do you want to know how you can positively impact lives in your community, even though you aren’t a mega-church with a large staff and a multimillion dollar budget?
You Don't Have To Figure
This Out Alone
At Here Like There 2025, you’ll be equipped by pastors and practitioners who’ve been where you are, doing the kind of work you feel called to do, for over twenty years.
Here Like There 2025 is hosted by John and Cynthia Wallace, the pastors of Bible Center Church, in Pittsburgh, PA. The Wallace’s launched their mission in 2004 with 13 members and a bold vision: to make earth more like heaven in Homewood—once known as America’s most violent neighborhood.

Over the past twenty years, Bible Center:
-
Converted a shuttered Rite Aid into a multi-use space called the WARM (Worship, Arts, Recreation, and Ministry) Center
-
Transformed a crack house into offices and classrooms
-
Graduated more than 150 entrepreneurs through the Own Our Own Business Academy
-
Built a commercial kitchen to incubate food-based businesses
-
Provided STEM education to 150 students every day
-
Turned vacant lots into an urban farm to grow fresh produce in a “food desert”
-
Launched a nationally recognized coffeehouse, Everyday Café to provide the community a “third space”
-
Created partnerships with other churches, local universities, and community-based not-for-profits to help transform its community for the Kingdom

Your Hosts
Here Like There 2025 is hosted by Pastors John and Cynthia Wallace. Since 2004, the Wallaces have served Bible Center Church in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. John M. Wallace, Jr., Ph.D. is the senior pastor of Bible Center and the founder of The Oasis Project, the community and economic development division of Bible Center. Cynthia M. Wallace, Ed.D. serves as the Executive Pastor of Bible Center and the Executive Director of The Oasis Project. In addition to being a pastor, John is a professor, and university administrator whose work and ministry over the last 30+ years has focused on the well-being of African American youth, families and communities, and the development of leaders in educational, for-profit, not-for-profit, and faith-based organizations. Prior to her roles at Bible Center, Cynthia served as a teacher, the co-founder of a Christian School, a school principal, and an adjunct professor of education. Through The Oasis Project, Bible Center educates young people, creates jobs, equips entrepreneurs, and engages in “withintrification”™ (i.e., community transformation from within the community for the benefit of those who live there). The ministries and social enterprises of The Oasis Project include an early learning center, after-school and summer youth programs, a transportation company, a business academy and coworking space (Own Our Own), and three food-related enterprises: Everyday Café, Oasis Farm, and Oasis Community Kitchen. The Wallaces have shared the theology and methodology of their “holistic faith-based development” model in churches, seminaries, and universities around the country. Dr. Cynthia Wallace is a national trainer and coach for the Made to Flourish network (www.madetoflourish.org) where she equips pastors and congregations to strengthen the connection between faith and work and helps churches to envision and implement strategies that impact not only their congregations but also the economic and social vitality of their communities. Most recently the Wallaces partnered with the Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation and the Lilly Foundation funded Charity to Change initiative to train a cohort of pastors and next generation leaders how congregations can invest in long-term, systemic community change. In 2023, the Wallaces launched Kingdom Advancement Consulting Group to equip pastors, not-for-profit leaders, and faith-based community developers to make their pieces of earth [here] more like heaven [there]. Dr. John Wallace earned his AB from the University of Chicago and MA and PhD degrees from the University of Michigan, all in sociology. Dr. Cynthia Wallace earned her AB in behavioral sciences from the University of Chicago, an M.Ed. in educational administration from the University of Michigan, an M.A. in marriage and family counseling from Geneva College, and an Ed.D. in school leadership from the University of Pittsburgh. The Wallaces have been married for over 38 years and are the proud parents of four adult children.
Past Participants' Experiences

Pastor Harold W.
Ypsilanti, MI
My wife and I attended an amazing conference in Pittsburgh led by Pastors John and Cynthia Wallace. It allowed me as newly appointed Senior Pastor, to glean information from other Pastors that led to us becoming more Kingdom-focused and a strong presence within not just our community, but our County as a whole.

Executive Director, Chalis H.
Henderson, NC
Attending the conference was truly ministry-changing! Taking a deep dive into Kingdom principles, and seeing them in practice at Bible Center Church and through the other ministry examples, was incredibly empowering and gave me fresh vision for my own ministry context.

Pastor Eric E.
Duquesne, PA
I had always envisioned what community ministry could look like. After attending the conference with Dr. John Wallace, I was able to see that vision come to life in real time at Bible Center. In addition to witnessing it firsthand, I also gained practical and spiritual tools to bring my own vision to fruition.
